Jardin Majorelle: An Oasis of Cobalt Blue and Exotic Plants
Find Serenity in Jardin Majorelle, Marrakech’s Most Famous Garden
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and step into a tranquil oasis of vibrant color and exotic beauty at the Jardin Majorelle. This enchanting botanical garden, famous for its intense cobalt blue accents, was the passion project of French painter Jacques Majorelle and was later lovingly restored by fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent. It is one of the most visited sites in Morocco, and for good reason.

A Painter's Dream, A Fashion Icon's Legacy
Jacques Majorelle began creating this masterpiece in 1923, dedicating nearly 40 years of his life to filling it with an astonishing collection of plants from all five continents. Cacti, bamboo groves, water lilies, and bougainvillea thrive alongside majestic palm trees. The centerpiece is the Cubist villa, painted in the now-famous “Majorelle Blue,” a bold and vibrant shade of cobalt that the artist patented.
After Majorelle’s death, the garden fell into disrepair until it was discovered and saved from developers in 1980 by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre BergĂ©. They restored it to its former glory and, upon Saint Laurent’s death in 2008, his ashes were scattered here. The garden is now a testament to the vision of two of the 20th century’s greatest artists.
Location and How to Get There
The Jardin Majorelle is located in the Gueliz neighborhood, just outside the Medina. It is on the same street as the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. A taxi is the easiest way to get there.
