Established in the 12th century by the Almohad Caliphate, the Menara Gardens are one of the oldest and most famous gardens in Marrakech. The large central basin was created as an irrigation system to water the surrounding olive and fruit trees. The elegant pavilion, with its distinctive green pyramid-shaped roof, was added in the 16th century and later renovated. Legend says that this pavilion was a pleasure retreat for the sultans of Marrakech.

Unlike the more ornate gardens in the city, the Menara Gardens are characterized by their grand scale and agricultural purpose. The thousands of olive trees are a key feature, and the olives are still harvested today.
